Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 April 2026

1. Who we are

Turbocrimp (“Turbocrimp”, “we”, “us”) is a climbing wall logging and browsing service operated by an individual based in New Zealand. We are the “agency” responsible for your personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

Contact: contact@turbocrimp.com.

2. What we collect

Account information (via Clerk):

  • Email address, username, and profile image
  • A unique user ID assigned by Clerk
  • Session and authentication metadata

Content you submit:

  • Wall photos and metadata (name, angle, slug)
  • Hold positions, problems, grades, ratings, notes
  • Ascent logs (dates, attempts, suggested grades, notes)
  • Wall creator request messages

Technical information:

  • IP address, user agent, and request metadata logged by hosting providers
  • Error and performance logs

3. How we use your information

  • To provide and operate the service (authentication, hosting your walls, displaying problems and ascents)
  • To compute leaderboards and stats from your ascents
  • To send transactional emails (e.g. approval notifications for wall creator requests), if you opt in
  • To investigate abuse, security issues, and violations of our Terms

4. Wall photos

Wall photos uploaded by admins are stored with our hosting provider and displayed to users browsing the wall. By uploading a photo you confirm you have the right to do so. Do not upload photos of people without their consent, or photos containing identifying information you do not want shared.

5. Third-party sub-processors

We share your information with the following providers solely to operate the service:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management.
  • Cloudflare — database (D1), application runtime (Workers), DNS, and CDN.
  • Vercel — web application hosting.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery (only if enabled).

These providers may store data outside New Zealand (e.g. United States, Europe). We do not sell your personal information.

6. Cookies

We use a session cookie set by Clerk to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

7. Retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. Ascents, first ascents, and wall versions are immutable records of activity and are retained to keep leaderboards and histories consistent.

When you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law.

8. Your rights

Under the NZ Privacy Act 2020 (and similar laws in your jurisdiction) you can:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal information
  • Withdraw consent for optional processing (e.g. emails)

To exercise these rights, email contact@turbocrimp.com. We respond within 20 working days.

9. Security

We rely on our sub-processors’ security controls (TLS in transit, encryption at rest) and apply reasonable safeguards. No online service is 100% secure — please use a strong password and do not reuse it elsewhere.

10. Children

Turbocrimp is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International users

If you access Turbocrimp from outside New Zealand, your information will be transferred to and processed in countries where our providers operate. By using the service you consent to this transfer.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new “last updated” date.

13. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, contact us first. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (New Zealand).
